    History

    Cessna developed the concept for the Sovereign in the late 1990s to fill the line between the Excel and the Citation X. The result was the Model 680 Citation Sovereign, powered by two Pratt & Whitney Canada PW306C turbofan engines can takeoff and land on much shorter runways than other jets in its class. It was first unveiled to the public in 1998 with FAA certification in 2004. The Sovereign seats eight passengers in the standard cabin configuration, with custom configurations carrying up to 12, in addition to the crew of two.
