The Gulfstream 550 private jet is an ultra-long range business jet, capable of traveling over fourteen and a half hours, equating to a distance of over 6,700 nautical miles. The G550 has one of the largest cabins of all heavy aircraft, 6.2 feet high, 7.3 feet wide and 50.1 feet long, as well as an ample, in-flight accessible baggage compartment capable of holding 226 cubic feet of luggage. Although seating configurations vary, the G550 can hold up to 18 passengers and can be arranged as an in-flight office, with fax, scanner and high speed wireless internet capabilities or can be partitioned into separate sleeping quarters. Typical routes of nonstop travel are Boston to Dubai and Tokyo to Washington, DC.
The G550 was developed from the original Gulfstream V and released to the market in 2003. It has increased performance and range which increased to 6,750 nautical miles which was improved by making the jet more aerodynamic. The Gulfstream 550 has the longest flight range in its class and one of the most advanced cockpits which consists of 4 Honeywell DU-1310 EFIS screens, a Gulfstream-designed cursor control system, and an Enhanced Vision System which permits the aircraft to land in lower-visibility than other jets. This private jet may be distinguished from the legacy Gulfstream V by a seventh passenger window on both sides of the aircraft. More than 460 Gulfstream G550 are now in production.
